We’re having an outdoor wedding/reception at my dad’s house and I want some ideas for decorations that are easy and inexpensive. Any thoughts? I’d also like to get a tent. Know any websites/ companies in central illinois that rent them cheap??
I was thinking about using tiki torches since it will probably begin to get dark before the whole thing is over. I’d prefer white but as far as I know they dont make white ones. Does any one know if you can paint them? Or would that be tacky?

We’re doing the exact same thing this summer for our wedding.

We rented an outdoor tent as well. My parents actually took care of this, so I’m not sure how much it was. I think it was around $100 to $200 for a LARGE tent with walls and windows.

We’re having the wedding at my parents house, as they have the large yard we need, plus an additional 130 acres! We’ll be setting up the tent for dining outside, and having an indoor/outdoor reception and dance (they have a large building available for the dance part of it).

For the ceremony, we’re not doing too much ‘decoration’, as the outdoors and the flowers are enough for me.

We’re using picnic tables, and simple white linens. For centerpieces, we’re using my mom’s homegrown tigerlilies, and simple vases. Votive candles will be displayed around the tables as well.

For the reception later on all I’m doing is using tulle wrapped with plain white christmas lights. Simple and elegant. We’ll also be bringing in trees and plants cultivated from the surrounding bush/forest.

I think a great addition would be japanese paper lanters. Very neat looking, unique, and FUN! I’m trying to find some for my wedding as well. Another great lighting idea is those large outdoor candles. They stand on large poles, and you can get either real candles, or wicks that burn off of oil. Very pretty at nighttime!

I find that for outdoor weddings simple is best! The natural beauty around you is the most pleasing!

Cheers!

open your local phone book and start calling for the tent. Decorations, get an arch at michaels craft store or rent one. Use alot of tulle and silk flowers on it. search the web for outdoor weddings. Sting tulle or a very wide ribbon from white pole as a walkway. Have a wooden dance floor made with pots of flowers in each corner. Just ideas. If I find my neices pictures of her outdoor wedding I’ll post them.

For the tables the best are candles (Hobby Lobby – I bought mine for 7.99 a piece, and I finally finished 2 candles after 1 year of marriage…long burning…), the larger, fatter kind and simple rose petals around, stay with your color theme..

Tiki torches sound like a great idea – and yeah, I think you could paint them white, but else you could decorate them – wrap with ribbon, leave some trailing from the top – tie some blooms to the top with the ribbon. For other decorations, I’d use fairy lights in all the trees which will look especially pretty at dusk/night… I’d keep all decorations as natural as possible – if you use flowers, go with big blooms and bright colors, so they stand out in the big space. And candles will be great – functional and pretty due to the outdoor lighting. Tents are usually not at all cheap, wherever you find them, they cost a LOT. Good luck though – sounds beautiful.

You could wrap the tiki torches in white ribbon and tulle or look at these tiki torches:

    For centerpeices:
-a clear bowl of water with floating candles

-a cheap vase (look for some at the dollar tree or something) and put flowers in it.http://www.flickr.com/photos/29273126@N08/2751430935/
-a bowl of m&ms or other candy that matches your color scheme
-a bowl of fruit that matches the color of your color theme
(but think about what you will do with the fruit afterwards, if you are having a big wedding, you will use a lot of fruit and most people wont want to take it home with them. i went to a wedding that did this and they had tons of fruit and no one took any of it home so they were stuck with it. but its a cute idea for a small wedding)
-just some taper candles in cheap candle holders

    Other decor ideas:
    -use christmas lights
-carnations, babysbreath, and hydrangea are cheap flowers
-those chinese lanterns look pretty outside and can help as far as lighting

tiki torches are fine, dont paint then… paint and fire dont always mix!

you can also use white xmas lights if you have the ability to run an extension cord. Pretty, no fire, and easy way to add light and sparkle.

For decor, since you are outside you want something weighted incase its breezy. You can do large vases, filled with water, place rocks or colored stones at the bottom and float a silk flower on top of each one.
