So I was thinking for part of the centerpeices for the reception to get some of the foilage at michaels. I’m sure its cheap looking, but when it comes to money, its cheaper doing it that way, and I could still make it look nice, they have lots to choose from, and all the right colors. I could put them in a vase w/ marbles or something I don’t know, what do you think, would you think it was tacky to have fake flowers on the table for decor? plz help..thanks a lot!
I used all fake flowers in my wedding, even the bridal party flowers. They looked great and everyone thought they were real! The centerpieces I ordered from ebay for less than $10 a piece. They are beautiful and you can get them in an assortment of colors, even request your theme colors to the seller. She has them on sale ALL the time and has her own site. http://cgi.ebay.com/9-RED-Rose-Bridal-Bouquet-Topiary-Wedding-Centerpieces_W0QQitemZ280335634147QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item41454e4ee3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50 Sorry for the long link. Just scroll down on the page to see other colors available. This might be cheaper than buying seperate pieces at the craft store. I gave the centerpieces to family memebers then saved one that we arranged with wedding pictures around it on one of our side tables. Very pretty. Hope that inspires an idea if nothing else.

I don’t think it’s tacky at all. There are so many very nice silk flowers out there that look very natural. Besides, I don’t think people really look at the centerpieces as much as brides seem to think they do. I cannot recall one centerpiece from any of the weddings I’ve ever been to. Stick with the silk flowers.

I do not care for fake flowers at all. If you can not afford real flowers then maybe do a candle centerpiece with fake rose petals lightly tossed around the pillar holder or something.

In my opinion…… fake flowers fake wedding…….yes i said it…….real flowers can be inexpensive if you do the research. I bet you can get real flowers for half the price than fake flowers, you just need to find a flower that is in bloom at the time of your wedding. I think real is just more classy.
GOOD LUCK!!!

I used to work at a banquet hall and have seen plenty of weddings that used fake floral decorations. It isn’t tacky at all. The main thing to keep in mind is to stick with the theme of your wedding. Be creative and have fun with it! I have seen everything from fake flowers to fruit centerpieces. One wedding even had tall vases with a few flowers and fish swimming in the bowl! Remember that this is your wedding, and whatever you choose to use as a centerpiece is ultimately your decision. If you are heading to Michael’s, I would even ask for advice from the employees who make floral arrangements, or get a book from the library of unique floral designs. This might help you decide how you want to display them. Good luck and congrats!

I’m usually not a fan of fake flowers, but there are some nice silk ones out there. However, your centerpieces don’t have to be flowers. They could be floating candles or pillar candles placed on a mirror with rose petals. You could also consider buying flowers wholesale off of http://www.costco.com or something similar. You could make the centerpieces only with 3 or 6 roses, or with some Gerbera daisies ordered.

To be perfectly honest, I have formerly said to those asking this on this same site that: Yes, it is tacky to use artificial flowers.
However, I think now I am simply of the opinion, that, tacky or otherwise, it is simply not the nicest thing to do.
Therefore, I recommend this: Purchase whatever pieces you wish, centerpieces, etc., to hold the flowers, wherever you can do so economically; and, then, purchase the flowers either at a florist of your local supermarket or at a wholesale enterprise, such as a local nursery, and, if necessary, buy limited numbers of flowers, baby’s breath, greenery, etc., than you normally would for the respective arrangements. As to the flowers, by doing the above you will save considerably than when purchasing arrangements from local florists; and, in addition, you will still be able to have real flowers, with their natural fragrance and appeal, as well as the creativity to make your own personal and ideally beautiful arrangements.
I have nothing against Michaels, but as to certain things, cutting corners simply does not work out.
Congrats and best wishes as to all.

Hmm.. yeah.. it;s a bit tacky and you’re still spending a whole lot of money ( micheals is crazy.. try the dollar store or even walmart).. what are you going to do with all of them after?..
You’re best bet is to have T-lights or candles. They help set the mood, they aren’t wasted and if you get scented ones, they’ll create nice ambience.
Other than that, Why not choose a single stem real flower? Very pretty, chic and affordable

Definitely consider all your options before resorting to fake flowers. To me, they look fake. I dont care if they are made of silk, wood or whatever..fake fake fake. I think youd be able to s ave just as much money by going with something more simple, and it will be different! Have you considered a vase with marbles in it ( in ur color) and some votive candles around it? Or perhaps you can just get votive candles and sprinkle rose petals on the table. All you have to do is get a dozen roses and thats it!
Your possibilities are endless, those are just some that popped in my head. I would really look into other ideas. Check out The Knot and look at pics from real weddings!

I think the word tacky is overused in this forum, but in this case, yes I would say it’s tacky. If you are only having a few floating flowers, or a few submerged in a vase it’s not a bad way to save money, but for an entire arrangement it would look cheap. Why not use something other than flowers if you want to save money

I had silk floral arrangement center pieces and bouquets and they looked beautiful. I think its all in what you buy and how you arrange it. I did a mix of tall vases with like the ball of flowers at the top and tall vases with marbles and water with floating candles. It really added to the ambiance of the reception hall.

Depends on the floral. A couple of faux gerbera daisies in a tall vase are one thing, but a whole big fluffy faux arrangement is another. To make it look really effective, the floral must be convincing. Also, remember: the more realistic the silk flower, the more expensive it will be. Watch your bill-sometimes fake florals can cost just as much as real ones.
If your budget is limited, and you are still dying for floral centerpieces, what about buying a flat of florals at a nursery, potting them in nicer-looking containers, and trying a silk ribbon around the container in your wedding color? It will still be a floral, it will be less expensive, and anyone who lives in the area can take them and use them in their yard.

You can make some fabulous centerpieces with fake materials. IMO, using fake foliage is quite a bit different than using fake blooms. Strange distinction probably, but I have it none the less. No, I don’t think in this instance it would be tacky. In general though, I’m not a fan of fake flowers for weddings.
BTW, just a pet peeve, but thought I’d get it off my chest here because of some of the answers you got. Flowers cemented into a glass container and left with their heads submerged is just horrible symbolism for a wedding. Weddings are full of symbolism, so more care should be taken in what ends up being conveyed. I know, this didn’t have anything to do with your question. It just revolted me.

You can make those flowers look beautiful. You do NOT have to have real flowers for centerpieces.
I would have real flowers for my bouquet, for the mothers’ lapels, and for the wedding party.
To make the tables look pretty…. go with fake. It is a great way to cut costs and will look just fine.
Spend your budget on the things that really matter to you… like a nice cake … your dress… the music at the reception… those types of things.
If you simply MUST have real flowers for table centerpieces…go simple… do one big flower in a very simple glass vase. This will look elegant and unfussy. I suggest a snowball or peony or perhaps a sunflower with some baby’s breath around it.

Not just tacky, cheap and ugly to boot. Spend your money wisely on a few select fresh blooms instead. Faux flowers scream "trailer park"…

I had fake flowers at my wedding…actually all of them including my bouquet and boutonnieres…it saved me tons of money and it was nice that i could save everything from my special day without having to dry anything…if you go to a big hobby store there are a lot of flowers that you can’t even tell they are fake…if you add a lot of greens in with them no one will know unless they touch them…another thing a good friend of mine did was spray the fake flowers with a mister and with a spray with the scent of the flowers…then it even smells like real floral…good luck and congratulations…
