Ideas for do it yourself wedding/reception decorations?

We’re having an outdoor wedding/reception at my dad’s house and I want some ideas for decorations that are easy and inexpensive. Any thoughts? I’d also like to get a tent. Know any websites/ companies in central illinois that rent them cheap??
I was thinking about using tiki torches since it will probably begin to get dark before the whole thing is over. I’d prefer white but as far as I know they dont make white ones. Does any one know if you can paint them? Or would that be tacky?

We’re doing the exact same thing this summer for our wedding.

We rented an outdoor tent as well. My parents actually took care of this, so I’m not sure how much it was. I think it was around $100 to $200 for a LARGE tent with walls and windows.

We’re having the wedding at my parents house, as they have the large yard we need, plus an additional 130 acres! We’ll be setting up the tent for dining outside, and having an indoor/outdoor reception and dance (they have a large building available for the dance part of it).

For the ceremony, we’re not doing too much ‘decoration’, as the outdoors and the flowers are enough for me.

We’re using picnic tables, and simple white linens. For centerpieces, we’re using my mom’s homegrown tigerlilies, and simple vases. Votive candles will be displayed around the tables as well.

For the reception later on all I’m doing is using tulle wrapped with plain white christmas lights. Simple and elegant. We’ll also be bringing in trees and plants cultivated from the surrounding bush/forest.

I think a great addition would be japanese paper lanters. Very neat looking, unique, and FUN! I’m trying to find some for my wedding as well. Another great lighting idea is those large outdoor candles. They stand on large poles, and you can get either real candles, or wicks that burn off of oil. Very pretty at nighttime!

I find that for outdoor weddings simple is best! The natural beauty around you is the most pleasing!

Need creative ideas for wedding reception decorations?

My brother is getting married in June. His fiance and her mother have asked me to help with the wedding reception. (particularly the decorations) She is wanting a summer(ish) themed wedding. She knows she wants bird of paradise for her flower. She also wants the colors found in that flower to be her wedding colors. (yellow, orange, light blue-ish purple)
Sorry for all the detail. My question is does anyone have any CREATIVE ideas for things like centerpieces at the guest tables and head table decorations. Also she wants to have a unique place for the guests to set their gifts. (not necessarily a table!) eg. a winter wedding guests could place their gifts under a christmas tree.
Thanks in advance for your ideas. I really need them!

When you said birds of paradise I immediately thought of Hawaii, since I live here. I think tropical. maybe you can do large bamboo as a vase with birds of paradise and hibiscus flowers. You could set up a hammock for the gifts to go in. You could cover the tables in banana leaves or palm leaves. Maybe not the whole luau theme, but definitely think tropical island or lazy summer days….

How do you plan a Wedding?

I want a book with like check lists
ive heard of them but iuno where to find it.. ne ideas??
id like to be all planned by October do i have enough time

Go to a bookstore like Books-A-Million or Barnes and Noble… they have wedding sections (just ask an employee to point you to the section) and flip through some and find the one that would suit your needs best… that’s what I’m going to be doing in a couple weeks. Bookstores have tons of wedding planners, but they’re all different, so you’ll have to find one that seems like it would work for you. Good luck!

Oh, and I guess you could also look online, at like Amazon.com… I’m sure they have a ton of planners too.

Wedding reception decorations ideas?

So I am getting married very soon. I decided to take an alternative route and just get married at city hall but were still having a nice sized reception wouldnt say big though. I just about have everything covered. I found a reasonably priced location. My mother in law is cooking the food. I will be buying the alcohol and my fiancee has good friend who dj’s now my question is this, since im not doing the wedding thing. What should do for centerpieces and decorations at the venue? I havent decided on a color quite yet but I have some thoughts and I just need some overall opinions on what I should do and I dont want to spend crazy on decorations, but I dont want to have cheesy looking reception either. Could somebody please help???

Search for "weddings" (and for related search words) in Y!A Discovery — the archives are FULL of great wedding ideas, many of them not too expensive, too. Lots of unique and "different" ideas as well — you just never know when you’ll come across the ones that suit you perfectly.

You’ll get way more ideas that way, too, besides waiting for a few to show up just for this question. At least 2-3 brides a week ask Qs like this — so there are hundreds of ideas stored up.
